W7D1 Done

Woke up at 1:30 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep so this was not at all something I wanted to do this morning. But it went okay. I ran the first five minutes a little bit slower than usual, and the last 5 minutes a little faster, and it helped to break up the run in chunks like that. My hrm never got it right after I started my cool down. I think my heart has trouble there - it has been doing really great during the runs but when I stop running I feel it. It went back and forth between 00 and 200+ for the entire last 5 minutes. Needless to say, affects the stats.

i know but i think, if you were trying to follow the program as written, and i think you were - that it prescribes 3x a week, not every other day. or did you decide to deviate?

Well, three times a week is 6 days. 6 days, 7 days - it never says you need to take 2 days of rest. I've run every other day the entire time. I think once I didn't because I was just too tired. But otherwise, I've been running every other day since I started. It works for me. If I were struggling with soreness etc I would space it out more maybe.

So my "3x a week is six days" makes no sense. What I meant was, my week in this program is six days, a normal week is 7 days...no big deal. I think the key is having a rest day in there, although I am definitely wanting to run more. It never once occurred to me, honestly, that I was deviating from the program. I don't think not having an extra day of nothing in there would make any difference. Not running enough for that.

well - established runners go 6x a week. i think the admonition not to deviate from the program has more to do with the fragile mental state of "couchites". as long as you are able to do more than 3x a week and not get discouraged or burned out, then go for it.
