oatmeal . . . what a curious thing.
i'm going to confess something that will compel you to ask yourselves "how is this possible"?
i ate oatmeal today . . . for the first time . . . ever!
i know, i know, it's hard to believe. but see, you must understand something. i have a few tactile-based idiosyncrasies, one of which is wet food. i eat my cereal dry - with no milk. i have no issue with milk in itself, but more so with way that it makes my cereal wet and invariably soggy. and so obviously, the same thing applies with oatmeal.
how have i lived 35 years without ever having consumed it? easy . . . anytime oatmeal was offered to me a myriad of other breakfast items was also offered, including cereal and more importantly bacon and eggs!
it was surprisingly easy to make - mix one packet instant low sugar (maple and brown sugar) oatmeal with 1/2 cup hot water. i suppose i can proclaim it fairly palatable. i may need to experiment with the water to oatmeal ratio and possibly use hotter water. i did find the pasty, soggy consistency to be a little disconcerting, but i pushed past that. after all, they eat it all the time on biggest loser, don't they?

Not to be predictable, but how is this possible?
I don't buy your explanation. How could your mom not MAKE you eat oatmeal? What kind of mom is she?
And, two, oatmeal is GOOD. Try real oatmeal vs. the packets.
i had this discussion with mary earlier - she was also incredulous. i think back on my childhood and i can't remember ever being forced or even asked to eat oatmeal. maybe my mom didn't like it. i know she hated avocados (still does). growing up she told us they caused cancer. breakfast was a rather loose affair around my house (obviously). once i got to junior high and high school there were many (make that most) mornings where i didn't even eat breakfast. because of course i was running late. because of course i overslept.
am i damaged because i missed out on early childhood oatmeal? think of all the missed fiber opportunities!
I agree with kc. Eat real oatmeal, not the packet kind. And if the texture still bothers you, try the steel cut kind. But they take a longer time to cook.
But really, NEVER? I thought you went to camp. Isn't there only one choice at camp breakfast?
it wasn't prison camp. it was church camp. we were coddled.
I make smoothies with oats.
You probably wouldn't like.
